If you’re looking for a non-surgical option to treat the appearance of wrinkles, unwanted scars, and large pores, stimulate your own collagen, and improve the overall appearance of your skin, microneedling may be exactly what you want.
Microneedling 101: Here’s What to Know
Before the microneedling procedure begins, we will apply numbing cream and a calming serum to the treatment area. In a single motion, the SkinPen will be gently pressed against your skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The feeling associated with the SkinPen is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating SkinPen tip reduces discomfort while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more tolerable.
To support the healing and repair that microneedling achieves — as well as enhance rejuvenation — we apply a variety of different serums to the treatment area immediately after the SkinPen treatment.
The microneedling procedure takes about 15-30 minutes alone but your total appointment time will be closer to two hours.
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time will depend on the SkinPen setting that was used and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs.
On average, patients are red up to 2-4 days (although some patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours). We also offer skincare products that help speed up the healing process. Although you can go about your regular activities, it’s important to avoid sun exposure during recovery — and always use a good sunblock outdoors in general.
Once the redness has subsided, you will notice a healthy glow to your skin. Results will continue to improve up to six months after the treatment as the new collagen production progresses.
Some patients only require a single treatment (once per year) to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of three treatments spaced about one month apart. For patients with deeper wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks, or acne scars, we recommend 6-8 sessions at six-week intervals.
